In order to take account of these new rules, the Commission also proposed certain amendments to Council Directive 90/425/EEC concerning veterinary and zootechnical checks applicable in intra-Community trade in certain live animals and products, and Council Directive 92/118/EEC laying down animal health and public health requirements governing trade in and imports into the Community of certain products.

Member States encountered serious trade problems when implementing the updated animal health rules for intra-Community trade laid down in Directive 64/432 that came into force on 1 July last year.
