Strongly condemns the death sentences and executions in Iran, in particular those imposed or carried out on juvenile offenders and minors, and protests vehemently against the execution in Iran on 11 October 2009 of Behnoud Shojaee; urges the Iranian authorities to respect the internationally recognised legal safeguards with regard to minors, such as the ICCPR and the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, and, in particular, not to execute Safar Angooti and Abbas Hosseini;

What the petition demonstrates and I should mention in terms of some of the signatories that it includes some distinguished signatories, such as Madam Justice Louise Arbour, the former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Salih Mahmoud Osman, a survivor of the killing field in Darfur and a member of Parliament there, Nobel Peace laureate Elie Wiesel, and the like, and as I say, leading international law scholars and what the Iran Accountability Act has been organized around is a particular finding of fact and conclusion of law that should underpin our hearings and indeed our own appreciation of one salient factual legal matter, and that is that Iran has already committed the crime of incitement to genocide in violation of the genocide convention's prohibition.

Expresses its concern about the continuous discrimination in law and in practice against women, despite some progress; condemns the use of violence and discrimination against women in Iran, which remains a serious problem; further condemns the use of violence by the Iranian security forces against women who had gathered earlier this year to celebrate International Women's Day on 8 March 2006; condemns furthermore the Iranian security forces' violent disruption of a peaceful demonstration on 12 June 2006 by women and men advocating an end to legal discrimination against women in Iran;

– having regard to the resolution adopted by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on 11 August 2005 on 'Implementation of the NPT Safeguards Agreement in the Islamic Republic of Iran' urging Iran to re-establish full suspension of all enrichment-related activities on the same voluntary, non-legally-binding basis as requested in previous Board resolutions, and to permit the Director General to reinstate the seals that had been removed at that facility without referring to the question whether Iran is in breach of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT),
