Although I support the compromise we have now reached, I have made a point of mentioning the shortcomings of the process and the outcome, both in the interests of honesty and to highlight – as I have done on previous occasions – the ludicrous situation where governments across the globe are producing multiple billions of dollars to bail out banks but have to search their souls to find, between 27 Member States and the budget of this Union, EUR 1 billion for the poorest people in the world.
Bien que je soutienne le compromis auquel nous sommes désormais parvenus, j’ai pris soin de pointer les déficiences du processus et du résultat, à la fois pour être sincère et pour souligner, comme je l’ai fait par le passé, la situation grotesque selon laquelle les gouvernements du monde entier trouvent des milliards de dollars pour renflouer les banques et entrent dans un débat existentiel pour trouver, parmi les 27 États membres et le budget de l’Union, 1 milliard d’euros pour les plus déshérités de la planète.
