J. whereas IUU fishing (illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing) in Guinea-Bissau waters is a long-running problem; whereas in 2008 and 2009 the national authorities found 58 vessels operating in breach of the rules, of which 11 had been fishing without a licence and 7 had been fishing in prohibited zones; whereas although some progress has been made and Guinea-Bissau clearly has some means of controlling fishing – including an observer corps and high-speed patrol boats – there are still shortcomings in the fisheries surveillance and control system in Guinea-Bissau’s territorial waters;

However, the commitments made by Guinea Bissau in the framework of the Article 96 Consultation remain applicable and the European Union expects your Government to make all necessary efforts to achieve them as a matter of priority.

The European Union recalls the Council Conclusions on the Republic of Guinea-Bissau adopted on 23 April 2012, underlines once again the importance that it attaches to future cooperation with the Republic of Guinea-Bissau and confirms its willingness to, pursuant to UN Security Council Resolution 2048 (2012) of 18 May 2012, accompany the Republic of Guinea-Bissau towards the restoration of constitutional order and a situation where the resumption of full cooperation becomes possible.
L’Union européenne rappelle les conclusions du Conseil du 23 avril 2012 concernant la République de Guinée-Bissau, souligne une nouvelle fois l’importance qu’elle attache à la future coopération avec la République de Guinée-Bissau et réaffirme sa volonté d’accompagner, en vertu de la résolution 2048 (2012) du Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies, du 18 mai 2012, la République de Guinée-Bissau sur le chemin de la restauration de l’ordre constitutionnel et vers une situation qui permettra de reprendre une pleine coopération.
