C. whereas there were reports of former President Mohamed Nasheed having effectively been denied appropriate legal representation at the court hearing of 23 February 2015 and access to copies of the trial proceedings necessary to lodge an appeal; whereas former President Mohamed Nasheed has therefore not been able to lodge an appeal against the sentence in due time and form;

B. whereas criminal charges have been recently filed against key opposition figures including former defence minister Mohamed Nazim, MP Ahmen Nazim and the former President Mohamed Nasheed, who was sentenced in March to 13 years in prison on charges of inciting terrorism while he was president;
