First of all, with regard to language in Quebec and Atlantic Canada, our commitment now—and we're working through this very diligently—is to provide service in both official languages.

To fulfill our mandate and responsibilities towards official language minority communities, I will be speaking to you about three major voletsat Industry Canada: first, our commitment to the economic development of official language minorities communities, which is entrenched in our mandate; second, the targeted coherent approach to economic development for the communities that is provided by the road map and the economic development initiative and; lastly, the key asset that official language minorities represents in the federal tourism strategy.

(a) an obligation for a service provider established in another Member State to make a simple declaration to the responsible national competent authorities at least five working days prior to the commencement of the service provision, in an official language of the Union that is also an official language of the host Member State or in another language, if accepted, by the host Member State, whereby the declaration covers in particular the identity of the service provider, the anticipated number of posted workers and their personal identification data, where applicable, the designated contact person as specified in paragraph 1 (a), the beginning and the anticipated duration and the place where the service is to be provided and the services justifying the posting;

Our commitment to official languages was also reaffirmed in budget 2008 and we are set to announce the next phase of the action plan on official languages this spring.

(19) A party may refuse to accept a document at the time of service or by returning the document within one week if it is not written in, or accompanied by a translation into, the official language of the Member State addressed (or, if there are several official languages in that Member State, the official language or one of the official languages of the place where service is to be effected or to where the document is to be dispatched) or a language which the addressee understands.

(8) Undertaking to provide after-sales service to consumers with whom the trader has communicated prior to a transaction in a language which is not an official language of the Member State where the trader is located and then making such service available only in another language without clearly disclosing this to the consumer before the consumer is committed to the transaction.
