This Regulation should apply to all institutions, and should not alter their responsibility to open their historical archives to the public nor the ownership by each institution of its historical archives.

In accordance with Council Regulation (EEC, Euratom) No 354/83 of 1 February 1983 concerning the opening to the public of the historical archives of the European Economic Community and the European Atomic Energy Community (1), the historical archives of the Union are preserved and are made available to the public wherever possible after the expiry of a period of 30 years.
Conformément au règlement (CEE, Euratom) no 354/83 du Conseil du 1er février 1983 concernant l'ouverture au public des archives historiques de la Communauté économique européenne et de la Communauté européenne de l'énergie atomique (1), les archives historiques de l'Union sont conservées et rendues accessibles au public, dans toute la mesure du possible, à l'expiration d'un délai de trente ans.

The obligation to establish historical archives and make them available to the public wherever possible is applicable to each of the institutions referred to in Regulation (EEC, Euratom) No 354/83 (‘the institutions’) under the conditions set out therein.

49 (1) Where the superintendent has reasonable grounds to believe that damage has been caused to a historic canal by any vessel, vehicle, equipment or goods, or that any vessel in a historic canal is obstructing navigation, obstructing or preventing the use of historic canal facilities open to the public or impending the safe and proper use or maintenance of a historic canal or its structures or equipment, the superintendent may seize and detain, at the risk and expense of the owner, the vessel, vehicle, equipment or goods.

WHEREAS the institution of marriage has been firmly grounded in Canada's social and legal tradition and reflects the biological reality uniquely characteristic of the sexual union of a man and a woman who, by their ability to procreate, are able to give birth to children; AND WHEREAS Parliament has historically provided a measure of support to married couples and to the obligations that flow from entering into a marriage because of the importance of marriage as the widely accepted institution for the raising and development of children; AND WHEREAS the meaning of marriage was so well known and understood historically that it had not been necessary to define it in statute law until now that certain decisions of the courts have created some doubts with respect to the meaning of marriage; AND WHEREAS, because of these court decisions, it has now become necessary to remove such doubts and to clarify the meaning of marriage; AND WHEREAS it is expedient that the meaning of marriage as public policy be determined by the Parliament of Canada because marriage is a matter and a cause that is cognizable only by the High Court of Parliament;

Question No. 852 Mr. Paul Dewar: With regard to the 29.2 million dollars in Strategic Review reductions assigned in the 2012 Budget to Parks Canada for fiscal years 2012-2013, 2013-2014, and 2014-2015: (a) what are the overall reductions for National Historic Sites (including historic canals, and federal funding in support of national historic sites not administered by Parks Canada), federal heritage buildings, heritage railway stations, heritage lighthouses and historic places; (b) of the 638 full time equivalent (FTE) position reductions announced by Parks Canada, how many will be taken from each of the program elements referred to in (a), and how many of those positions are in (i) Parks Canada field units, (ii) service centres, (iii) the national office; (c) what are the specific impacts (expressed in dollar and FTE reductions) on each National Historic Site (including Historic Canals) administered by Parks Canada; (d) what are the specific impacts (expressed in dollar and FTE reductions) on support for (i) national historic sites not administered by Parks Canada, (ii) federal heritage buildings, (iii) heritage railway stations, (iv) heritage lighthouses, (v) historic places, including the Canadian Register of Historic Places and Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada; and (e) what is the reduction in operating hours and other services to the public for each National Historic Site, including Historic Canals, administered by Parks Canada?

The Parties, in conformity with their respective legislation and without prejudice to the reservations included in their commitments in the other provisions of this Agreement, shall encourage, in the framework of appropriate programmes, exchanges of expertise and best practices regarding the protection of cultural heritage sites and historic monuments bearing in mind the UNESCO world heritage mission, including through facilitating the exchange of experts, collaboration on professional training, awareness of the local public and counselling on the protection of the historic monuments and protected spaces and on the legislation and implementation of measures related to heritage, in particular its integration into local life.

I have therefore chosen to share with you some genealogical notes and historical information from various publications by a Manitoban historical society, the Société historique de Saint-Boniface.
