It is a very interesting country which is very special in political terms, and which engages in very interesting forms of cooperation with Europe while not being party to many European agreements, and for this very reason, it is worth building links with this country by means of uncontroversial and universally accepted programmes of this kind.

C’est précisément pour cette raison qu’il vaut la peine de créer des liens avec ce pays au moyen de programmes non controversés et universellement acceptés de ce genre.

The coastal areas that were previously covered by Objective 5b (rural development) will now benefit from a special programme worth EUR 350 million.

Acting on a proposal by Mr Bruce Millan, the Member with special responsibility for regional policies, the Commission has granted assistance worth ECU 580 644 000 (about PTA 90 billion) from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to implement an operational programme (the Programa Operativo Medio Ambiente Local) which will run from 1994 to 1999. The programme will protect the environment in municipalities with over 50 000 inhabitants in the Objective 1 regions of Spain.
