In order to further specify and clarify the use of the term ‘organic’ and of the Organic logo of the EU in the labelling of feed produced form organic ingredients, the relevant provisions of Regulation (EC) No 889/2008 should be reworded.
Afin de préciser et de clarifier l’utilisation du terme «biologique» et du logo biologique de l’Union européenne dans l’étiquetage des aliments pour animaux produits à partir d’ingrédients issus de l’agriculture biologique, il convient de reformuler les dispositions pertinentes du règlement (CE) no 889/2008.

I supported the proposal in this regard from the Socialist Group in the European Parliament, according to which the presence of GMOs in organic products would have to be limited solely to unforeseeable and technically unavoidable amounts to a maximum of 0.1% and that the term ‘organic’ was not to be used to describe products contaminated accidentally by GMOs in excess of a detectable threshold of 0.1%.

As far as the labelling of organic products is concerned, the proposed regulation defines more explicitly the current rules on the use of or references to "organic", and derivatives, diminutives and translations thereof, in order to continue to protect the term "organic".
En matière d'étiquetage des produits biologiques, la proposition de règlement définit de manière plus explicite les règles actuelles concernant l'utilisation du terme "biologique", ses dérivés, ses diminutifs et ses traductions ainsi que les références qui y sont faites afin de continuer à protéger ce terme.

1. For the purposes of this Regulation a product shall be regarded as bearing terms referring to the organic production method where, in the labelling, advertising material or commercial documents, such a product, its ingredients or feed materials are described in terms suggesting to the purchaser that the product, its ingredients or feed materials have been obtained in accordance with the rules laid down in this Regulation.

Aux fins du présent règlement, un produit est considéré comme portant des termes se référant au mode de production biologique lorsque, dans l'étiquetage, la publicité ou les documents commerciaux, le produit, ses ingrédients ou les matières premières destinées aux aliments pour animaux sont caractérisés par des termes suggérant à l'acheteur que le produit, ses ingrédients ou les matières premières destinées aux aliments pour animaux ont été obtenus selon les règles établies dans le présent règlement.

For the sake of consumer protection and fair competition, the terms used to indicate organic products should be protected from being used on non-organic products throughout the Community and independently of the language used.
Pour assurer la protection des consommateurs et une concurrence loyale, les termes servant à identifier les produits biologiques devraient, dans l'ensemble de la Communauté et indépendamment de la langue employée, être protégés contre toute utilisation pour des produits non biologiques.

In the labelling and advertising of live or unprocessed agricultural products terms referring to the organic production method may be used only where, in addition, all the ingredients of that product have also been produced in accordance with the requirements laid down in this Regulation.
L'utilisation de termes faisant référence au mode de production biologique dans l'étiquetage et la publicité des produits agricoles vivants ou non transformés n'est possible que si par ailleurs tous les ingrédients de ce produit ont également été obtenus en accord avec les exigences énoncées dans le présent règlement.

2. The terms referred to in paragraph 1 shall not be used anywhere in the Community and in any Community language for the labelling, advertising and commercial documents of a product which does not satisfy the requirements set out under this Regulation, unless they are not applied to agricultural products in food or feed or clearly have no connection with organic production.
2. L'utilisation des termes visés au paragraphe 1 n'est autorisée en aucun endroit de la Communauté ni dans aucune langue communautaire pour l'étiquetage, la publicité et les documents commerciaux concernant un produit, qui ne répond pas aux exigences énoncées dans le présent règlement, à moins que ces termes ne s'appliquent pas à des produits agricoles présents dans les denrées alimentaires ou les aliments pour animaux ou qu'ils ne soient manifestement pas associés à la production biologique.

The term “organism”, used in Article 2 (1) point 21, should be defined in line with Article 2 point 1 of Directive 2001/18/EC and in line with the – more specific – definition of “micro-organism”, given by Art. 2 (a) of Council Directive 90/219/EC.
Le terme "organisme" utilisé dans la définition donnée au point 21 de cet article devrait être défini de la même manière qu'au point 1 de l'article 2 de la directive 2001/18/CE et, plus spécialement pour les micro-organismes, au point a) de l'article 2 de la directive 90/219/CEE.
