L’Union européenne est résolument en faveur de la suppression, ou de la non-exécution, de la peine capitale et en faveur du droit à un procès équitable. Le président irakien a déclaré que signer l’arrêt d’exécution de Saddam Hussein ferait violence à ses convictions en matière de droits de l’homme, qu’il promeut, et à sa position de principe en faveur de la suppression de la peine capitale. Cela étant, le Conseil pourrait-il dire ce qu’il compte faire pour manifester une nouvelle fois l’opposition de l’Union européenne à la peine capitale en soi?
