The Geneva initiative by Yossi Beilin and Yasser Abed Rabbo confirms the willingness which exists within the two civil societies to achieve peaceful coexistence in two independent, viable and prosperous states, living side by side in security, to the benefit of all Israelis and Palestinians as well as of all countries in the region.

The Council also expresses its strong support for the Alliance of Civilizations initiative launched under the auspices of the United Nations Secretary-General by the Prime Ministers of Spain and Turkey and welcomes the call for dialogue and mutual respect made at the meeting chaired by the UN Secretary-General in Doha on 25 February, 2006.
