Canada was an active member of the Friends of 1325 group at the United Nations, and as the tenth anniversary of 1325 approached in the fall of 2010, the chair of my organization, Ambassador Swanee Hunt, former president of Ireland Mary Robinson and others urged the UN to hold a commitments conference, at which countries would be asked to speak about the new and meaningful steps they planned to take to implement Resolution 1325.
