IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

The EU is well placed to help implement these reforms through experience from the enlargement process and support for building capacity and institutions in other parts of the world. In this context, the negotiation of a TCA with Iraq will be an additional area in which the EU can make a contribution, both by spurring Iraq to establish a functioning administration to manage the implementation of the agreement and by providing a framework for setting up technical working groups to support the exchange of know-how and expertise.

Calls on the international humanitarian agencies working in Iraq and Syria, including UN agencies, to increase the provision of medical and counselling services, including psychological treatment and support, for displaced people who have fled the ISIL/Daesh advances, paying special attention to the needs of the most vulnerable populations, i.e. survivors of sexual violence and children; calls for financial assistance to be made available, and for the creation of programmes to comprehensively address the medical/psychological and social needs of SGBV survivors in the ongoing conflict;

As confirmed by UNSCR 1546, the UN will draw on its considerable experience in Iraq before the war and and on the work begun by UN Special Envoy Sergio De Mello before the tragic attack on UN headquarters in Baghdad last year and continued by Special Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi, to play a key role in helping the Iraqis to move through their political transition The EU should therefore continue to support the UN in playing this leading role and ensure that its actions to assist Iraq are well coordinated with that organisation.
Comme le confirme la résolution 1546 du Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies, l'ONU mettra à profit la vaste expérience qu'elle a acquise en Iraq avant la guerre et des travaux engagés par son envoyé spécial, Sergio De Mello, avant l'attentat tragique perpétré contre le siège des Nations unies à Bagdad l'année dernière, et poursuivis par l'envoyé spécial Lakhdar Brahimi, afin de jouer un rôle-clé pour aider les Iraquiens à mener à bien leur transition politique. * Note that work is underway to set up an independent Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Iraq which should be managed by the UN and World Bank to address priorities identified by the UN, World Bank and IMF in the framework of Iraq's overall reconstruction needs.
