The only thing is – and this is prompted by our behaviour in the past – that we must further strengthen the preventive aspect of the Stability Pact, because if a Member State goes down the wrong road, then we cannot allow it to become subject to political bargaining in the Council, which is ultimately what the response from Europe will be.
La seule chose est que – et c’est notre comportement par le passé qui le veut – nous devons renforcer davantage l’aspect préventif du pacte de stabilité. En effet, si un État membre emprunte la mauvaise voie, nous ne pouvons permettre qu’il devienne l’objet de négociations politiques au sein du Conseil, ce qui, au bout du compte, sera la réponse de l’Europe.
