We are on course to institute a modern, pluralistic democracy, because when we took up arms, albeit reluctantly, in 1954 to throw off the yoke of colonialism, we stood firm, and this guided our actions for seven and half years, that our goal was to build a democratic and social Republic of Algeria.
La bonne voie, c'est la construction d'une démocratie moderne et pluraliste, parce que lorsque nous avons pris les armes, forcés malgré tout en 1954 pour nous libérer du colonialisme, nous l'avons dit et cela a été le leitmotiv pendant sept ans et demi, c'était pour construire une république algérienne démocratique et sociale.
