Emphasises that the family is a cornerstone of our society and is inherently associated with the transmission of values and with cooperation in a spirit of solidarity; underlines that introducing flexible working hours and providing teleworking opportunities, as well as extending child care and professionalising home help for the elderly, represent an important step towards making it possible to combine work and family life and to enhance equal participation of women and men in the labour market and in education and training; regrets the fact that the lack of adequate leave schemes, parental leave schemes and flexible working arrangements for both parents often prevents women from participating actively in the labour market or from working full time; considers that this also requires a change in corporate cultures with regard to the appointment and employment of women; calls therefore on the Council, the Commission and the Member States to prevent cuts in benefits or social services in the field of childcare, care of the elderly and vulnerable people as a result of the economic and financial crisis;

A radical policy and culture shift is taking place, away from a "job-for-life" ending with early retirement, towards ''employment for life'', active ageing strategies with strengthened and more accessible lifelong learning, flexible working arrangements, safe and innovative working conditions, and modern and effective social protection mechanisms at their core.

1. The International Olive Council shall make whatever arrangements are appropriate for consultation or cooperation with the United Nations and its organs, in particular the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), the Joint FAO/WHO Programme of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) and other specialised agencies of the United Nations and with such intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organisations as may be appropriate for the olive sector and as may strive to provide funds to support the activities of the International Olive Council for the benefit of all the Members.

De Internationale Olijfolieraad treft de nodige regelingen voor overleg of samenwerking met de Verenigde Naties (VN) en de VN-organen, met name de Conferentie van de Verenigde Naties inzake handel en ontwikkeling (Unctad), het Ontwikkelingsprogramma van de Verenigde Naties (UNDP), de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie (WHO), de Voedsel- en landbouworganisatie (FAO), het gemeenschappelijke FAO/WHO-programma van de Codex Alimentarius-commissie, de Internationale Arbeidsorganisatie (ILO), de Organisatie van de Verenigde Naties voor onderwijs, wetenschap en cultuur (Unesco) en andere gespecialiseerde organen van de Verenigde Naties, alsmede met intergouvernementele, gouvernementele en niet-gouvernementele organisaties die de olijfsector van dienst kunnen zijn en middelen ter beschikking kunnen stellen ter ondersteuning van door de Internationale Olijfolieraad georganiseerde acties die alle leden van de Internationale Olijfolieraad ten goede komen.

Encourages the Commission, the Member States and the relevant regional authorities to step up their contacts with the countries that are candidates for accession and the countries of the Mediterranean Basin in order to improve or rationalise any existing arrangements for cooperation with a view to developing joint projects capable of generating new employment by identifying and managing new activities in the field of tourism and related or complementary fields, the promotion of inland regions and health-related tourism, including hydro-thermal resources and cultural activities designed to reclaim declining rural areas for tourism, with the additional aim of reducing the flow of unqualified people emigrating;
30. moedigt de Commissie, de lidstaten en de bevoegde regionale overheden ertoe aan de contacten met de kandidaat-lidstaten en de landen rond te Middellandse Zee te intensiveren, om eventueel bestaande vormen van samenwerking voor de ontwikkeling van gemeenschappelijke projecten te verbeteren of te rationaliseren, waar deze nieuwe werkgelegenheid kunnen scheppen, alsmede om nieuwe toeristische activiteiten te vinden en te beheren in de direct en indirect met het toerisme samenhangende sectoren, en voor de opwaardering van de gebieden in het achterland en het toerisme om gezondheidsredenen, zoals de thermen, en ook culturele routes om landen in verval toeristisch weer interessant te maken, enzovoort; een ander doel is de niet gekwalificeerde emigratie in de hand te houden;

The Commission will ensure coordination with other Community instruments active in the cultural sphere through specific actions, cultural Cooperation Agreements and special cultural events, mainly with a view to promoting and arranging for collaboration between sectors with common and converging interests, such as for example:
