The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr René Steichen, today announced the imposition of quantitative limits on garlic imports into the EU from China. Announcing the decision Mr Steichen said that this action is necessary in view of the substantial increase in garlic imports from China in recent times which presents a serious threat to the livelihoods of over 50,000 farm families in the EU who are directly dependant on garlic production.
