The aim of the proposal for a Directive, submitted to the Council by the Commission in June of this year, is to harmonize, at Community level, the form and content of registration certificates for motor vehicles in order to facilitate road traffic within the Community, simplify procedures for the re-registration of vehicles in another Member State, promote exchanges of information on the transfer of ownership of vehicles so as to step up the fight against illegal vehicle trafficking, and improve the functioning of the internal market.
Doel van dit voorstel, dat door de Commissie in juni laatstleden aan de Raad werd toegezonden, is harmonisatie, op communautair niveau, van de vorm en de inhoud van de kentekenbewijzen van motorvoertuigen, zodat het reizen over de weg in de Gemeenschap gemakkelijker wordt, de procedures voor een nieuwe inschrijving van een voertuig in een andere lidstaat worden vereenvoudigd, de informatieuitwisseling over de eigendomsoverdrachten van voertuigen wordt bevorderd om beter strijd te kunnen voeren tegen de handel in gestolen auto's, en de werking van de interne markt wordt verbeterd.
