Where a customs debt is reinstated pursuant to Article 116(7), the periods laid down in paragraphs 1 and 2 shall be considered as suspended from the date on which the application for repayment or remission was submitted in accordance with Article 121, until the date on which the decision on the repayment or remission was taken.

What is new in the initiative is the international and coordinated remission sought with the inclusion of multilateral debts whereas, hitherto, (in the framework of the Paris Club) it was principally bilateral government debts which were reduced.
Nieuw aan het initiatief is dat ook multilaterale schulden onder de internationaal, gecoördineerde aanpak vallen, terwijl tot nu toe voornamelijk (in het kader van de Club van Parijs) de bilaterale overheidsschulden zijn verlaagd.
