TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

Sustainable forest management means guaranteeing the long-term safety of the forest for future generations. Indeed, this was the underlying principle of the UN Environmental Conference in Rio de Janeiro in 1992: Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs and choose their own life style.
Duurzaam bosbeheer betekent dat het bosbestand op de lange termijn voor de komende generaties wordt behouden, hetgeen volledig in de zin is van het motto van de VN-milieuconferentie die in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro plaatsvond: Een duurzame, toekomstgerichte ontwikkeling sluit aan bij de behoeften van de huidige generatie, zonder de kansen van toekomstige generaties te verkleinen om in hun eigen behoeften te voorzien en hun eigen levensstijl te kiezen.

Outside Europe they shall at least correspond to the UNCED Forest Principles (Rio de Janeiro, June 1992) and, where applicable, to the criteria or guidelines for sustainable Forest management as adopted under the respective international and regional initiatives (ITTO, Montreal Process, Tarapoto Process, UNEP/FAO Dry-Zone Africa Initiative).

AWARE of the importance of principles set out in the 1992 Rio Declaration on Environment and Development in the context of securing sustainable forest management, and in particular of Principle 10 concerning the importance of public awareness and participation in environmental issues and of Principle 22 concerning the vital role of indigenous people and other local communities in environmental management and development;

United Nation Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED): at the UNCED in Rio de Janeiro (June 1992), the Participating States set out the principles underlying the management, conservation and ecologically viable exploitation of all types of forest in the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development.

The European Union remains committed to the implementation of the Rio Declaration, Agenda 21 and Forest Principles and reiterates its support for promoting the management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests.
