1. Bluefin tuna fishing shall be prohibited in the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean by large-scale pelagic longline catching vessels over 24 m during the period from 1 June to 31 December with the exception of the area delimited by west of 10° W and north of 42° N, where such fishing shall be prohibited from 1 February to 31 July.
1. Van 1 juni tot en met 31 december geldt voor grote pelagische beugvisserijvaartuigen van meer dan 24 m een verbod op de blauwvintonijnvisserij in het oostelijke deel van de Atlantische Oceaan en de Middellandse Zee, met uitzondering van het gebied ten westen van 10° WL en ten noorden van 42° NB, waar deze visserij verboden is van 1 februari tot en met 31 juli.

The additional specific conditions for bluefin tuna caught in the eastern Atlantic by baitboats and trolling boats, for bluefin tuna caught in the Adriatic for farming purposes and for bluefin tuna caught in the Mediterranean by the coastal artisanal fishery for fresh fish by baitboats, longliners and handliners are set out in Annex I.
11. The latest assessment for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) concludes that the only way to save southern and Atlantic bluefin tuna was to shut down the fisheries until stocks were rebuilt (If adopted, articles 30 and 31 are adapted to be consistent).

The background to this proposal is the data which reveals what is happening with this species.
