Having regard to the international structure of agricultural trade and in the interest of the functioning of the internal market, it is necessary to organise cooperation among the Member States.

In line with the European Union (EU) ‘One Health’ initiative, this covers areas such as human and veterinary medicine, the keeping of animals, agriculture, trade and the environment.

Particular attention will be given to ensure that regulation on life sciences and biotechnology adequately integrates our international objectives and facilitates innovation and international competitiveness, that Community research contributes coherently and effectively to Community objectives, and that other Community policies and objectives (e.g. in environment, public health and consumer protection, education, employment, agriculture, trade and development policies) adequately reflect the long-term and global importance of life sciences and biotechnology.
Er zal in het bijzonder worden toegezien op de correcte integratie van de internationale doelstellingen van de Gemeenschap ter bevordering van innovatie en het internationale concurrentievermogen in de regelgeving inzake biowetenschappen en biotechnologie. Considers that the EU agricultural sector has a clear added value for the European economy and a strategic role to play in the EU 2020 strategy towards tackling the economic, social and environmental challenges that the EU is facing; underlines the need to ensure policy coherence between the EU’s agricultural, trade and development policies;
