Definition: Symptoms are presented by the patient as if they were due to a physical disorder of a system or organ that is largely or completely under autonomic innervation and control, i.e. the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, respiratory and urogenital systems. The symptoms are usually of two types, neither of which indicates a physical disorder of the organ or system concerned. First, there are complaints based upon objective signs of autonomic arousal, such as palpitations, sweating, flushing, tremor, and expression of fear and distress about the possibility of a physical disorder. TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

The activities which will be coordinated, encouraged or undertaken under the HELIOS II programme include: - exchanges of information and experience (visits, traineeships, seminars) - provision of practical information for the disabled on technical aids, using the computerised HANDYNET system - encouraging participation by the disabled in other Community programmes relating to training, new technologies, youth mobility and exchanges, etc. - information for the general public and enhanced awareness of the issue.

Since it was first launched in 1988, the Helios programme has aimed to promote the use of new technologies by the disabled in the sectors of social, educational and economic integration and financial rehabilitation, chiefly thanks to Handynet, an information system whose computerised data bank offers more than 30 000 items of information, in 9 languages, on the technical aids available in Europe for the disabled.

The three-day meeting enabled participants to discuss the priority topics to be selected for HELIOS in the next three years, the organisation of exchanges and information between the Member States, cooperation with the NGOs, the distribution of information within the Member States and the development of the multilingual computer system (HANDYNET).
