– (PT) This joint motion for a resolution, replacing the motions by the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, the Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance and the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, is intended to promote the Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative (TBVI) with a view to meeting the targets defined by the United Nations in the Millennium Development Goals.
− (PT) De onderhavige ontwerpresolutie, die is ingediend ter vervanging van de ontwerpresoluties van de Fractie Alliantie van Liberalen en Democraten voor Europa, de Fractie De Groenen/Vrije Europese Alliantie en de Fractie van de Progressieve Alliantie van Socialisten en Democraten in het Europees Parlement, beoogt het "Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative" (TBVI) te bevorderen, teneinde de doelstellingen te verwezenlijken die door de Verenigde Naties geformuleerd zijn in het kader van de millenniumontwikkelingsdoelstellingen.

Recalling its previous conclusions and declarations on Sudan, the Council welcomes the comprehensive peace agreement signed between the Sudanese government and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army and appeals to the Sudanese government and the National Democratic Alliance to sign the final Cairo agreement as soon as possible.

The Council notes the forthcoming dialogue in Cairo between the Government of Sudan and the National Democratic Alliance.

In this regard, calls on the European Union to formally engage with democratic governments from other regional groups in order to start formal cooperation and consultation within the UNHRC with a view to guaranteeing the success of initiatives aimed at the respect of the principles contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; considers that it is only through concerted action by a cross-regional alliance of democratic states that the European Union's multilateral human rights efforts can be effective in United Nations fora, as has been shown by the recent successful adoption, on 18 December 2007, of the abovementioned General Assembly Resolution 62/149 on a moratorium on the use of the death penalty;

Although the interests of neoliberal capitalism unite the right and social democrats in Europe, the interests of individual nations, international alliances and of various economic groups do not match Franco-German interests.
