Een tijd later heeft de Scientific Panel on Food Additives, Flavourings, Processing Aids and Materials in Contact with Foods van de EFSA (EFSA, 2008a) deze ADI van 0,5 mg/kg/dag gevalideerd voor alle bronnen van lycopeen, ook dat uit tomaat, op basis van een NOAEL-waarde van 50 mg/kg/dag (No-Observed- Adverse-Effect Level) en bij toepassing van een veiligheidsfactor van 100.
