- Une prophylaxie peut être envisagée chez les patients à risque lors des interventions suivantes: cystoscopie ou examen urodynamique en cas d’infection urinaire, biopsie de la prostate ou des voies urinaires, chirurgie prostatique, dilatation uréthrale, dilatation œsophagienne, sclérose de varices œsophagiennes, interventions (endoscopiques ou chirurgicales) pour obstruction des voies biliaires, interventions gynécologiques en cas d'infection, chirurgie avec incision de la muqueuse intestinale, y compris une intervention pour une cholécystite ou l’ouverture d’un trajet de fistules anales.

C’est à ce niveau que les recommandations belges diffèrent le plus de celles de l’American Heart Association: l’American Heart Association ne recommande plus de prophylaxie pour les interventions mentionnées ci-dessus, sauf si les patients présentent une infection du système uro-génital ou gastro-intestinal; les recommandations belges adoptent donc une attitude plus prudente.
Hier ligt het verschil tussen de Belgische aanbevelingen en de aanbevelingen van de American Heart Association: de American Heart Association raadt bij de hierboven vernoemde ingrepen geen profylaxis meer aan, tenzij bij patiënten met een infectie in de urogenitale of gastro-intestinale tractus; in de Belgische aanbevelingen wordt dus een voorzichtigere houding aangenomen.
