Tevens zal het van belang zijn te onderzoeken hoe en wanneer de deelneming aan het ASEM-proces kan worden uitgebreid. Een dialoog met Azië waarin een belangrijke component van die regio niet is vertegenwoordigd kan zijn potentieel niet volledig waarmaken, en voor onze Aziatische partners is het tijd de mogelijkheid te overwegen om de Aziatische aanwezigheid in ASEM te verbreden en op de verwachtingen van Zuid-Azië en Australazië in te gaan. Aan Europese zijde moeten wij bevestigen dat de Europese Unie, als Unie, de kern van het proces blijft vormen, want de basisdoelstellingen van het ASEM-proces zijn en blijven fundamentele strevingen van de Unie. Naarmate de EU zich in toekomstige jaren uitbreidt zullen de nieuwe lidstaten uiteraard een volwaardige rol spelen als ASEM-partners, evenals in andere aspecten van de externe betrekkingen van de Unie.
It will also be important to consider how and when participation in the ASEM process might be enlarged. A dialogue with Asia in which a major constituent of that region is not represented cannot live up to its full potential, and it is timely for our Asian partners to consider the possibilities for broadening the Asian presence in ASEM, and to address the expectations of South Asia and Australasia. On the European side, we must confirm that the European Union, as a Union, remains at the core of the process, given that the underlying objectives of the ASEM process are and will remain fundamental concerns of the Union. As the EU expands in future years, the incoming Member States will of course play a full role as ASEM partners, as in other aspects of the Union's external relations.

Calls on the Commission to proceed immediately with an evaluation of the national implementing measures taken under Framework Decision 2004/68/JHA with a view to a proposal for the immediate amendment of national provisions which are contrary to that Decision, and supports the commitment shown by the Commission which, in conjunction with the main credit card issuing companies, is assessing the technical feasibility of excluding websites involved in online sales of child pornography material to be excluded from the online payment system or introducing other restrictions; calls likewise on other economic players such as banks, bureaux de change, Internet service providers and search engine operators to take an active part in efforts to combat child pornography and other forms of commercial exploitation of children; calls on the Council and the Commission, with regard to Directive 2007/65/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 December 2007 amending Council Directive 89/552/EEC on the coordination of certain provisions laid down by law, regulation or administrative action in Member States concerning the pursuit of television broadcasting activities , to prohibit child pornography and violence against children in all audio-visual media services; considers that one of the Commission's basic priorities should be to strengthen cross-border operations against child pornography internet sites and to improve cooperation between public authorities and private sector bodies with a view to making a commitment to closing down illegal websites;

Welcomes the fact that the Commission used its position, as chair of the Kimberley Process throughout 2007, to strengthen the mechanisms designed to stem the flow of conflict diamonds; reiterates the importance of the Kimberley Process, given the connection between stopping the trade in conflict diamonds and the achievement of sustainable peace and security; also welcomes Turkey and Liberia as new participants in 2007 and the re-admission of the Republic of the Congo to the Kimberley Process (bringing to 48 the total number of participants, including the European Community representing 27 Member States);

Ook belangrijke milieu-NGO’s hebben zich als actieve deelnemers aan het GMB-proces opgesteld.
Major environmental NGOs are also actively participating in the IMP process.
