The most significant aspect of the current political situation is, without doubt, the holding of elections to the legislature on 7 and 21 April, which resulted in a victory for the Socialist Party (MSzP) in coalition with the Liberals (SzDSz). The coalition gained 51.3 % of the vote, securing 198 seats in Parliament, compared with 48.7 % of the vote or 188 seats for Mr Orban's FIDESz party and its coalition partner, the Hungarian Democratic Forum (MDF).
