8. onderstreept het belang van een strategische en gestructureerde dialoog op lange termijn met de LAS, OIS en GCC; is in dit opzicht ingenomen met de op 11 juni 2014 in Athene aangenomen verklaring en het memorandum van overeenstemming van januari 2015, en roept ertoe op deze volledig ten uitvoer te leggen; wijst er met nadruk op dat het van cruciaal belang is frequente topconferenties tussen de EU en de LAS, OIS en GCC te organiseren; onderstreept de centrale rol die de LAS moet spelen bij de oplossing van crises; is ervan overtuigd dat deze crises aantonen dat de LAS door haar leden tot een daadwerkelijk besluitvormingsorgaan moet worden omgevormd dat in staat is bindende besluiten goed te keuren; herinnert aan de strategische samenwerking tussen de Europese Unie en de GCC; benadrukt dat de GCC een positieve, politieke invloed kan uitoefenen op de crisis- en conflictbeheersing in de MONA-landen;
8. Stresses the importance of long-term strategic dialogue with the LAS, OIC and GCC; welcomes, in this regard, the declaration adopted in Athens on 11 June 2014 and the memorandum of understanding of January 2015, and calls for their full implementation; stresses the crucial importance of the organisation of frequent summits between the EU and LAS, OIC and GCC; stresses the central role to be played by the LAS in terms of crisis resolution; believes that these crises highlight the need for the LAS to be transformed by its members into a fully-fledged executive body genuinely capable of taking binding decisions; notes the strategic cooperation between the European Union and the GCC; stresses that the GCC could exert a positive political influence in the management of crises and conflicts in the MENA countries;

16. betreurt nog steeds dat het onvermogen een oplossing te vinden voor het geschil over de naam, de toegang van het land tot het EU-lidmaatschap heeft geblokkeerd; deelt de mening van de Europese Raad dat de naamskwestie definitief moet worden opgelost zonder vertraging van een van beide partijen, en dat het arrest van Den Haag, dat deel uitmaakt van het internationaal recht, van kracht dient te worden; verleent zijn krachtige steun aan de inspanningen van de speciale gezant van de VN om een algemeen aanvaardbare oplossing te vinden; verwelkomt het voorstel van de commissaris voor uitbreiding om een trilaterale bijeenkomst tussen Skopje, Athene en Brussel te organiseren; is van mening dat dit initiatief kan helpen de onderhandelingen onder leiding van de VN een nieuwe impuls te geven; is ingenomen met de gegenereerde steun voor een memorandum van overeenstemming alsook met de recente contacten met de bemiddelaar van de VN; dringt er bij alle partijen op aan iedere gelegenheid te baat te nemen om deze actie tot een succes te maken, een constructieve dialoog aan te gaan om een oplossing te vinden en de impasse te doorbreken; is met het oog hierop van mening dat het leiderschap van het land en de Europese Unie het publiek moeten uitleggen welke voordelen de eventueel gevonden oplossing biedt, voordat een referendum over dit onderwerp wordt gehouden;
16. Continues to regret that the inability to solve the name dispute has blocked the country’s road to EU membership; agrees with the European Council that the name issue needs to be brought to a definitive conclusion with no delay on either side and that the Hague Decision, which is part of international law, needs to come into force; strongly supports the efforts of the UN special envoy to reach a commonly acceptable solution; welcomes the proposal made by the Enlargement Commissioner regarding a trilateral meeting between Skopje, Athens and Brussels; takes the view that this initiative could help boost the UN-led negotiations; welcomes the momentum generated for a Memorandum of Understanding and the recent contacts with the UN mediator; calls on all parties to seize every opportunity in order to make this action successful, to enter into constructive dialogue towards finding a solution and to unblock the situation; takes the view that the country’s leadership and the European Union should explain to the public the benefits of a solution if one is agreed ahead of the referendum on the issue;
