ABB claims that soon after the meeting of 17 January 1996, BA-VDH management had given oral instructions to all companies to 'desist from illegal contacts with competitors`; but six weeks later on 4 March it was advocating in a directors' meeting the employment of a 'consultant` to continue the cartel without the need for plenary meetings.
