Voor de toepassing van deze overeenkomst wordt onder „partijen” verstaan: enerzijds de Europese Gemeenschap, haar lidstaten dan wel de Europese Gemeenschap en haar lidstaten, binnen de grenzen van hun respectieve bevoegdheden zoals die voortvloeien uit het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschap, en anderzijds de Republiek Costa Rica, de Republiek El Salvador, de Republiek Guatemala, de Republiek Honduras, de Republiek Nicaragua en de Republiek Panama, binnen de grenzen van hun respectieve bevoegdheden.
For the purposes of this Agreement, ‘the Parties’ shall mean the Community, its Member States or the Community and its Member States, within their respective areas of competence, as derived from the Treaty establishing the European Community, on the one hand, and the Republics of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama, on the other, in accordance with their respective spheres of competence.

This Agreement shall apply, on the one hand, to the territories in which the Treaty establishing the European Community is applied and under the conditions laid down in that Treaty, and, on the other hand, to the territories of the Republics of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.

The Agreement on Trade in Bananas between the European Union and Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru and Venezuela, signed in Geneva on 31 May 2010 (1), has entered into force on 1 May 2012.
