TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

De migratietop in Valletta (11-12 november 2015) brengt leiders samen van Europese en belangrijke Afrikaanse landen, met name de landen die partij zijn bij de processen van Khartoum en Rabat, en de Commissie van de Afrikaanse Unie en de Commissie van de Economische Gemeenschap van West-Afrikaanse Staten.
The Valletta Summit on Migration (11-12 November 2015) will bring together the leaders of European and key African countries, notably those who are party to the Khartoum and the Rabat Processes, as well as the African Union Commission and the Economic Community of West African States’ Commission.

Underlines the need for a rapid African response to crisis, and identifies the key role in this of the African Standby Force (ASF); underlines the major contribution of the EU, through the African Peace Facility and the funding of the AU, allowing the AU to strengthen its capacity to provide a collective response to crises on the continent; encourages regional organisations, such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), to increase their efforts in the area of rapid African responses to crises and to complement the efforts of the AU.

Insists that the RECs should be the pillars of the African integration process and the establishment of a pan-African market, and should not only be dealing directly with Europe; further insists that EPAs should not undermine Africa's own regional integration agenda, but that they should also be instruments for South-South integration and trade; calls therefore on the EU to respect Africa's own integration process, as determined by the Treaty establishing the African Economic Community of June 1991 (the Abuja Treaty), which provides for the African Economic Community to be set up through a gradual process, achieved by coordination, harmonisation and progressive integration of the activities of existing and future RECs in Africa;

Stresses, in this spirit, that in 1991, after signing the fourth Lomé Convention, almost all of the African countries signed and subsequently ratified the Abuja Treaty, which provides for the setting up of an African economic community within 30 years; believes therefore that the cooperation activities to be enshrined in the new EU-ACP convention should take the form of a contribution to the building of this community and the direction it will take, and in no wise oppose the attainment of that goal;
