Welcomes the current developments in, and the strong bottom-up approach adopted by, the regions of the Alpine area, which have repeatedly expressed their desire for an Alpine strategy to address effectively challenges common to the entire Alpine arc, to exploit its considerable potential more consistently and to address the need to improve mobility, energy security, environmental protection, social and economic development, cultural exchange, and civil protection in the Alpine region;

4. is van mening dat het geografische toepassingsgebied van de eventueel te ontwikkelen Alpenstrategie beperkt moet blijven tot het onder de Alpenovereenkomst vallende grondgebied, aangezien uitbreiding van de macroregio tot een groter gebied tot gevolg zou kunnen hebben dat het uitgebreide Alpengebied met de bijbehorende steden en industriële centra het eigenlijke Alpengebied zou gaan overheersen in termen van bevolkingsomvang en economische macht;

Believes that the geographical scope of a strategy for the Alps must be limited to the territory covered by the Alpine Convention, as expanding the macro-region to a larger territory would be liable to mean that the extra-Alpine region, with its metropolises and centres of industry, would dominate the actual Alpine region in terms of population size and economic power;

In het Alpengebied vertonen de ozonconcentraties een minder geprononceerde dagelijkse cyclus dan elders (UBA, 2002).
In Alpine areas ozone shows a less pronounced diurnal cycle compared to other regions (UBA, 2002).

Waarden hoger dan de alarmdrempel van Richtlijn 2002/3/EG (240 μg/m3) zijn de voorbije jaren in het Alpengebied echter niet gemeten.

Het ESC heeft tijdens zijn Zitting van 25 april met algemene stemmen een initiatiefadvies goedgekeurd, getiteld "Het Alpengebied: een kans voor ontwikkeling en integratie" (rapporteur: de heer MASUCCI, Groep II, Italië).
The ESC adopted unanimously its Own-initiative Opinion at its Plenary Session on 25 April 1996 (Rapporteur: Mr Ettore MASUCCI, Group II, Italy).

Elk van deze seminars zal zijn gewijd aan een van de belangrijke groepen regio's die het onderwerp zijn geweest van in opdracht van de Commissie uitgevoerde studies over ruimtelijke ordening, namelijk : - het Alpengebied, - het Middellandse-Zeegebied, - de Benelux, - het aan de Midden- en Oosteuropese landen grenzende gebied, - het gebied rond Noord- en Oostzee, - de Atlantische regio's.
These gatherings will be aimed at the main groups of regions which have been the subject of studies commissioned by the Commission in this field, namely: - the Alpine arc - the Mediterranean region - the Benelux area - regions bordering on countries of central and eastern Europe - the North Sea and Baltic areas - the Atlantic arc.

Voor deze twee bergstreken samen zijn communautaire kredieten toegekend ten bedrage van 5,475 miljoen ecu (prijzen van 1995): 3,042 mln ecu voor de Alpen 2,433 mln ecu voor de Jura Het nieuwe vierde zwaartepunt van het gecombineerd programmeringsdocument voor de regio Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur omvat projecten voor het Alpengebied op het vlak van: - de ontwikkeling van de bedrijfskolom m.b.t. specifieke "regionale" produkten; - de valorisatie van het natuurlijk erfgoed; - steun voor de ontwikkeling van "toeristische" produkten in de Alpen.
For these two mountain regions, an overall volume of Community assistance worth ECU 5.475 million (at 1995 prices) will be granted: - ECU 3.042 million for the Alps, - ECU 2.433 million for the Jura. In the case of the Alps, the new priority 4 in the single programming document for the Provence-Alps-Côte d'Azur region envisages projects in the following fields: - organization of agricultural sectors on the theme of traditional local products; - development of the natural heritage; - support for the creation of alpine tourism products.
