The Tunis Conference, initiated and set forth by the European Commission's Directorate General for Energy (DG XVII) under the SYNERGY programme, will give effect to energy related aspects of the Essen European Council Declaration on the Union's readiness to support the countries of the Mediterranean Basin in their efforts to evolve into a peaceful, stable, prosperous and cooperating zone.
