The Commission agrees with Opinion 22 of the European Group on Ethics and New Technologies that “should alternatives to hESCs with the same potential as embryo-derived stem cells be found in the future, the implications of such developments for both scientific and ethical aspects of the hESC-based research projects ought to be taken into account as soon as possible”[49].
