De totstandbrenging van een douane-unie tussen de zes landen van de Groep van San José in Centraal-Amerika zal ook door de Commissie worden gesteund.

Is firmly of the opinion that an EU-GCC FTA would be substantially advantageous to both parties; believes that an FTA with the EU would facilitate the further economic integration of the GCC and that, following the establishment of the GCC Customs Union, it may also lend greater impetus to important projects such as the GCC common market and the completion of a GCC monetary union with a single currency; considers that the GCC could benefit from lessons learned during the formation of a single market and adoption of a single currency by the EU;

Naast de aspecten zelf van de onderhandelingen tussen de twee partijen is het belangrijk te benadrukken dat de geleidelijke versterking en uitdieping van de Mercosur, voornamelijk via de totstandbrenging van de douane-unie en de ontwikkeling van de gemeenschappelijke markt, met inbegrip van het vrij verkeer van ingevoerde producten, essentieel zijn om de barrières neer te halen en het handelsverkeer en de investeringen tussen de twee regio's te stimuleren.
Beyond the specific elements of the negotiations on both sides, it is important to stress that the progressive consolidation and deepening of Mercosur, notably via the completion of the customs union and the development of the common market, including the free movement of imported products, is in itself a crucial factor for the reduction of barriers and encouragement of trade and investment between the two regions.
