D. whereas Nabeel Rajab, Bahraini human rights defender and President of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR), Deputy Secretary-General of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and member of the Advisory Committee of Human Rights Watch’s Middle East Division, was sentenced to six months imprisonment simply for peacefully exercising his freedom of expression; whereas Nabeel Rajab was arrested on 1 October 2014 after his visit to the Subcommittee on Human Rights of the European Parliament on accusations of posting tweets about a group of his countrymen allegedly cooperating with IS/Da’esh; whereas he was charged with insulting a public institution and the army; whereas in November 2013 the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention described the detention of Mr Nabeel Rajab as arbitrary;

Tevens is het hoog tijd dat de Commissie buitenlandse zaken van het Europees Parlement een nieuwe werkgroep krijgt. Laten we niet alleen een werkgroep hebben voor de Verenigde Naties of de Balkan of de vijf externe financieringsinstrumenten, maar ook voor het Midden-Oosten.

Dit centrum is opgericht met goedkeuring van de landen die deelnemen aan de in het kader van het vredesproces in het Midden-Oosten ingestelde multilaterale werkgroep die zich bezighoudt met de watervoorraden, alsmede van de rechtstreeks betrokken landen van de regio (Jordanië, Palestina, Israël), met als achterliggende gedachte dat het waterprobleem in een regionaal kader moet worden behandeld.
This Centre was created with the approval of the countries participating in the multilateral working group on water resources set up in the framework of the Middle East peace process and the countries of the region directly involved (Jordan, Palestine, Israel), considering that the problem of water has to be dealt with in a regional context.

The Union's efforts will be channelled in particular through the multilateral working groups on Regional Economic Development and Arms Control and Regional Security with a view to contributing to economic development and regional security in the Middle East; - supporting the Palestinian Interim Self-Government Authority to be established under the Israeli-PLO agreement through the rapid, efficient and transparent implementation of European Union aid programmes for the development of the Occupied Territories, in close consultation with the Palestinians.
