O. overwegende dat de geldende nationale wetten voor de bescherming van niet-landbouwproducten in de lidstaten een verschillend beschermingsniveau bieden, wat niet strookt met de doelstellingen van de interne markt en moeilijkheden oplevert voor hun doeltreffende bescherming in Europa en in lidstaten zonder wettelijke bescherming op nationaal niveau, en daarmee de noodzaak aangetoond wordt van een uniform stelsel van bescherming van geografische aanduidingen in de hele EU;
O. whereas the national laws currently protecting non-agricultural products give rise to different degrees of protection in Member States, which is not in conformity with the aims of the internal market, and is causing difficulties for their effective protection in Europe and in Member States where they are not covered by national legislation, thus pointing up the need for a single system for the protection of geographical indications throughout the EU;

− (PL) Ik heb vóór het verslag van mevrouw Geringer de Oedenberg over de wettelijke bescherming van computerprogramma’s gestemd. Dit soort programma’s vervult immers een enorm belangrijke rol bij het soepel functioneren van onze moderne maatschappij. Ze moeten dus op een behoorlijke wettelijke bescherming kunnen rekenen die aansluit bij de regels zoals die – bijvoorbeeld – gelden voor copyright met betrekking tot literaire en artistieke voortbrengselen in de zin van het Verdrag van Bern.
− (PL) I voted in favour of the report by Mrs Geringer de Oedenberg on the legal protection of computer programs, as I feel that, since they play such a massive role in the functioning of modern society, they should be guaranteed appropriate legal protection that is recognised as complying with copyright regulations, like literary and artistic works in the sense of the Berne Convention.

73. dringt erop aan dat de Commissie en de ACS-landen een adequaat wettelijk kader ontwerpen voor de bescherming van het intellectuele eigendom van de biodiversiteit in het Zuiden. Dit wettelijk raamwerk voorziet in ieder geval in de oprichting van databanken met informatie over planten, dieren en hun natuurlijke habitat, de wettelijke bescherming van de nationale biodiversiteit en de wettelijke bescherming van de onvervreemdbare rechten van inheemse volkeren ten aanzien van hun traditionele kennis over het gebruik van dieren en planten; daarnaast zal de Europese Unie de ACS-landen ondersteunen met financiële en technische middelen en de benodigde wetenschappelijke kennis, waarbij speciale aandacht wordt besteed aan de rechten van de inheemse volkeren;
73. Urges the Commission and the ACP States to draw up an adequate legal framework to protect intellectual property in respect of biodiversity in the South; such a framework must provide for the establishment of databases containing information on flora and fauna and their natural habitats, the legal protection of national biodiversity and the legal protection of the inalienable rights of indigenous peoples as regards their traditional knowledge concerning the use of animals and plants; the EU must also provide the ACP States with financial and technical support and the necessary scientific know-how, particular attention being paid to the rights of indigenous peoples;
