Wel is vanaf 1998 in Vlaanderen de wintertaling (Anas crecca) van de lijst van bejaagbare soorten verwijderd (tot ten minste in 2003) en is de jacht op watervogels, met uitzondering van de wilde eend (Anas platyrhynchos), in sommige speciale beschermingszones in Vlaanderen verboden.
However, Anas crecca was taken off the list of species which can be hunted in Flanders as from 1998 (until at least 2003) and the hunting of waterfowl, with the exception of the Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), is prohibited in a number of SPAs in Flanders.
