TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

What we want to see is a parliament in which that diversity of views that exists within regions, not between regions, is reflected here in the House of Commons, not just for the sake of accuracy, but because we believe that would lead to a parliament and a political culture that would be less divisive, that would tend more toward national unity, that would create fewer opportunities and less temptation for political parties to exploit regional perceptions, regional hostilities and regional grievances, both real and perceived, in order to obtain electoral success, electoral success in a particular region but often at the expense of a more national political success.
Ce que nous voulons, c'est un Parlement où la diversité des points de vue qui existe à l'intérieur même de chaque région se reflète ici, à la Chambre des communes, et pas uniquement pour donner un tableau plus précis de la situation, mais parce que cela peut mener, à notre avis, à un Parlement et à une culture politique moins porteurs de dissensions et davantage porteurs d'unité nationale. When I decided to become a member of parliament 13 years ago, one of the things I said I would try to do as a member of parliament from downtown Toronto was not just to talk about issues or concerns that were specific to my community or my region, but to attempt, from time to time, where it was appropriate, to speak on issues that concerned every region of the country and especially speak on issues where people's voices really needed to be heard.
Lorsque j'ai décidé de devenir député il y a 13 ans, je me suis promis, en ma qualité de député du centre-ville de Toronto, de parler non seulement des questions touchant précisément ma collectivité ou ma région, mais aussi des questions concernant toutes les régions du pays, et surtout des dossiers où des gens auraient besoin de se faire entendre.
