IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

(2) Pursuant to Article 206 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) the Union, by establishing a customs union, is to contribute, in the common interest, to the harmonious development of world trade, the progressive abolition of restrictions on international trade and on foreign direct investment, and the lowering of customs and other barriers.
(2) Conformément à l’article 206 du traité sur le fonctionnement de l’Union européenne, l’Union contribue, par l’établissement d’une union douanière et dans l’intérêt commun, au développement harmonieux du commerce mondial, à la suppression progressive des restrictions aux échanges internationaux et aux investissements étrangers directs, ainsi qu’à la réduction des barrières douanières et autres.

(1) Article 21 of the Treaty on European Union provides that the Union is to define and pursue common policies and actions, and work for a high degree of cooperation in all fields in international relations in order, inter alia, to encourage the integration of all countries into the world economy, including through the progressive abolition of restrictions on international trade; pursuant to the same article the Union should promote democracy, the rule of law, the universality and indivisibility of human rights and fundamental freedoms, respect for human dignity, the principles of equality and solidarity and the respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law; the cooperation in the field of international relations should serve to foster the sustainable economic, social and environmental development of developing countries, with the primary aim of eradicating poverty.
(1) L'article 21 du traité sur l'Union européenne dispose que l'Union définit et mène des politiques communes et des actions et œuvre pour assurer un haut degré de coopération dans tous les domaines des relations internationales afin, notamment, d'encourager l'intégration de tous les pays dans l'économie mondiale, y compris par la suppression progressive des obstacles au commerce international. D'après ce même article, l'Union devrait promouvoir la démocratie, l'état de droit, l'universalité et l'indivisibilité des droits de l'homme et des libertés fondamentales, le respect de la dignité humaine, les principes d'égalité et de solidarité et le respect des principes de la charte des Nations unies et du droit international. By establishing a customs union in accordance with Articles 28 to 32, the Union shall contribute, in the common interest, to the harmonious development of world trade, the progressive abolition of restrictions on international trade and on foreign direct investment, and the lowering of customs and other barriers.
