– Mr President, I am told that, when Slovenia opened its borders recently, the crowd there compared notes on how much they had smuggled across during the Communist days, even to the extent of having a model confessional box there for anyone who confessed their sins, who was then rewarded with coffee and brandy, so I can understand why President Barroso rushed to be part of these celebrations!
– Monsieur le Président, on me dit que, lorsque la Slovénie a ouvert ses frontières récemment, les personnes dans la foule sur place comparaient leurs notes sur l’importance de la contrebande qu’elles avaient fait passer durant la période communiste, à tel point qu’un confessionnal y était installé pour ceux qui voulaient confesser leurs péchés. Ces derniers étaient ensuite récompensés par du café et du brandy. Je comprends donc pourquoi le Président Barroso s’est hâté d'aller prendre part à ces célébrations!
