Two years away from the expiry of the Lisbon Agenda, we must acknowledge that the objectives outlined – ambitious objectives – are far from having been achieved (and our comparative speeding up in the face of the slow-down in the American economy is not a matter for celebration). I believe that it would therefore be better to finally acknowledge the need to follow the path outlined but not followed, rather than to try to make a final effort to achieve in two years what we did not manage to achieve in eight.
Deux ans après l'expiration de l'agenda de Lisbonne, nous devons reconnaître que les objectifs établis – des objectifs ambitieux – sont loin d'avoir été atteints (et notre accélération face au ralentissement de l'économie américaine n'est pas un motif de réjouissance.) Je crois qu'il serait donc préférable de reconnaître finalement le besoin de suivre le chemin établi mais non suivi, plutôt que d'essayer de consentir un dernier effort afin d'atteindre en deux ans ce que nous n'avons pas réussi à atteindre en huit.
