With regard to the recommendation for second reading on the Council common position for adopting a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on international rail passengers’ rights and obligations (Sterckx report) I would like to explain that the Members of the PSE Greek Delegation (Arnaoutakis Stavros, Beglitis Panagiotis, Matsouka Maria, Lambrinidis Stavros and Tzampazi Evangelia) abstained from the votes on Amendments 59 and 69 according to which: ‘all trains, including cross-border and high-speed trains, shall provide a specially designated area enabling passengers to bring on to the train baby carriages, wheelchairs, bicycles and sports equipment possibly against payment’.
- (EN) Par rapport à la recommandation pour la deuxième lecture de la position commune du Conseil en vue de l’adoption du règlement du Parlement européen et du Conseil sur les droits et obligations des voyageurs ferroviaires internationaux (rapport Sterckx), je voudrais expliquer que les membres de la délégation grecque PSE (Arnaoutakis Stavros, Beglitis Panagiotis, Matsouka Maria, Lambrinidis Stavros et Tzampazi Evangelia) se sont abstenus de voter pour les amendements 59 et 69 selon lesquels: «Sur tous les trains, y compris les trains internationaux et les trains à grande vitesse, les voyageurs doivent pouvoir, éventuellement contre paiement, emporter poussettes, fauteuils roulants, bicyclettes et engins de sport, lesquels doivent être rangés dans un espace prévu à cet effet».

This meant of course that very thorough work was undertaken with the Greek delegation too, which is following this issue with a sense of importance worthy of Athenian diplomacy. Now, however, the delegation is also guided by the spirit of a diplomatic rapprochement, which has been seen in relation to its neighbouring country since the earthquake that devastated Turkey and the consequent expression of solidarity by Greece.
Cela a bien entendu exigé un travail approfondi de la part de la délégation grecque, qui accorde à ce dossier toute l'importance requise par la diplomatie d'Athènes, mais qui est également guidée à présent par un esprit de rapprochement diplomatique à l'égard du pays voisin, que l'on peut constater depuis le tremblement de terre qui a dévasté la Turquie et qui a été suivi de gestes de solidarité de la part de la Grèce.
