The Commission has authorized a joint venture between Shell Chimie, a French subsidiary of the Shell group, and Elf Atochem or "Ato", a subsidiary of the Elf Aquitaine group; the jointly owned subsidiary is to make PVC compounds for the manufacture of hollow mouldings, which are used mainly as containers for liquids for human consumption.

SNC Dorlyl is to increase its capital, with Ato taking all of the additional shares, which will raise Ato's holding from 40% to 50% and give it joint control along with Shell. Dorlyl will specialize in the production and marketing of PVC compounds for hollow mouldings in Europe.
