The hon. member for Calgary Centre-North (1230) Mr. Jim Prentice (Calgary Centre-North, CPC): Mr. Speaker, I listened as my hon. friend from Esquimalt—Juan de Fuca spoke with respect to this matter and I was surprised with respect to some of his comments because, looking at some of the other things which the hon. member has said in the House, he seems to have undergone quite an epiphany.

But in response to the questions that my hon. friend from the New Democratic Party asked, I would say that scrapping the Senate is the easy way out.

Mike Scott (Skeena, Réf.): Monsieur le Président, puisque j'interviens après mon collègue et ami d'Esquimalt—Juan de Fuca, je ne voulais pas parler beaucoup de la réforme du Sénat, car je sais que ce sujet a déjà été bien couvert, mais, pour répondre aux questions que le député néo-démocrate a posées, je dirai que l'abolition du Sénat serait une solution de facilité.
