1. Pursuant to Article 20 of Regulation (EC) No 1260/1999, the ERDF shall, in accordance with Article 21 of that Regulation, contribute to the implementation of the Community initiative for cross-border, transnational and inter-regional cooperation intended to encourage the harmonious, balanced and sustainable development of the whole of the Community's territory ("Interreg") as well as to the implementation of the Community initiative for economic and social regeneration of cities and urban neighbourhoods in crisis with a view to promoting sustainable urban development ("URBAN").

En application de l'article 20 du règlement (CE) n° 1260/1999, le FEDER contribue, conformément à l'article 21 dudit règlement, à la mise en oeuvre de l'initiative communautaire en matière de coopération transfrontalière, transnationale et interrégionale visant à stimuler un développement harmonieux, équilibré et durable de l'ensemble de l'espace communautaire (INTERREG), ainsi qu'à la mise en oeuvre de l'initiative communautaire visant à la réhabilitation économique et sociale des villes et des banlieues en crise en vue de promouvoir un développement urbain (URBAN).

2. The Commission shall ensure coordination and consistency between measures undertaken pursuant to this Regulation and measures undertaken with contributions from the Community budget, including contributions from Community initiatives for cross-border transnational and interregional cooperation, the operations of the European Investment Bank (EIB), including through its pre-accession facility as well as the other financial instruments of the Community and inform the Committee established under Article 14 hereof.
2. La Commission assure la coordination et la cohérence entre les mesures entreprises au titre du présent règlement et les mesures soutenues par d'autres contributions du budget communautaire, notamment des contributions au titre d'initiatives communautaires en matière de coopération transfrontière, transnationale et interrégionale, par des opérations de la Banque européenne d'investissement (BEI), y compris au travers de son mécanisme de préadhésion, ainsi que par les autres instruments financiers de la Communauté et en informe le comité constitué conformément à l'article 14.

With a view to encouraging joint small scale actions involving local actors from the border regions and to enhancing their capabilities to identify, develop and implement such actions, a joint small project fund may be established in each border region, for which a limited percentage of the appropriations for the relevant programmes and initiatives for cross-border cooperation may be used.
