– (FR) I voted in favour of the excellent report by my honourable colleague Mr Pahor on the amendment of the incompatibility provisions in Rules 3 and 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the European Parliament, which deal with the verification of credentials and the duration of the mandate It is indeed only right that the administrations of the Member States should be involved in the verification of credentials, particularly in cases where a new Member of the European Parliament holds an office that may be incompatible with membership of the European Parliament.
- J’ai voté en faveur de l’excellent rapport de mon collègue Borut Pahor relatif à la modification des articles 3 et 4 du règlement intérieur du Parlement européen, lesquels traitent de la vérification des pouvoirs et de la durée du mandat dans ses aspects relatifs aux incompatibilités. Il est en effet normal que les administrations des États membres soient impliquées dans la vérification des pouvoirs; notamment dans le cas d’incompatibilités risquant de frapper un nouveau parlementaire européen.

I would like to mention another Irishman, one whom perhaps not everyone will know, particularly not the new Members, but you know him – our friend and former colleague Joe McCartin, who was a Member of this Parliament from 1979 until the last European elections, and was the only member of our group to be honoured by the award of the Robert Schuman Medal.
