Stresses again that non-violent means are the only way to achieve peace between Israelis and Palestinians through a negotiated final status agreement ending all mutual claims; condemns all acts of violence attacking or endangering civilians on both sides; reiterates its strong commitment to the security of Israel; continues to support the policy of non-violent resistance espoused by Palestinian civil society and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas;

Expresses its deep concern over the mounting tensions between Israelis and Palestinians; condemns in the strongest terms all acts of terrorism or violence against innocent Israeli and Palestinian citizens – including the attack at the Har Nof synagogue which killed five people on 18 November 2014 and the recurrent violent clashes in the Haram-al-Sharif / Temple Mount area – and extends its condolences to the families of the victims; warns about the risks of a further escalation of violence involving holy sites, which could transform the Israeli-Palestinian conflict into a religious conflict; calls for a de-escalation of the situation and stresses once more that non-violent means are the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians; emphasises that any violent action can only fuel extremism on both sides;

Stresses again that peaceful and non-violent means are the only way to achieve a sustainable solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; continues to support, in this context, President Abbas' policy of non-violent resistance and to encourage intra-Palestinian reconciliation and Palestinian state-building, and considers presidential and parliamentary elections to be important elements of this process;

As the President-in-Office of the Council said, the international community is heeding and giving its backing to the Geneva initiative, non-violent Palestinian resistance against military occupation, soldiers who refuse to carry out bombardments and be the instruments of repression in the occupied territories, the Palestinian and Israeli parents who have had their loved ones killed by the army, by Israeli settlers or by Palestinian assassins/suicide attackers and who reject the idea of vendetta.
