In such a context the request of the European Parliament, regarding the introduction of a code of conduct for advertising of food high in fat or sugars aimed at children during the debate on a modification of the "Audiovisual Media Services" (AVMS)[11] Directive, has to be underlined.

I should like to inform the House that during his last visit some months ago, the President-in-Office of the Council, Mr Berlusconi, made a number of commitments to the House on behalf of the Italian Presidency. Each of the commitments made to Parliament regarding our participation in the Intergovernmental Conference has been 100% delivered.

– Mr President, there are, not unnaturally, different assessments in this Parliament regarding the Treaty of Nice, but even those who are highly critical of the Treaty – and there are many – will agree in this debate on the future of Europe that the best way forward is to use the post-Nice procedures and to make the most of them to improve our Union, to rectify the shortcomings of Nice and to have a proper debate on the future of the Union.
- (EN) Monsieur le Président, le traité de Nice fait bien entendu l'objet de diverses évaluations au sein de ce Parlement, mais même ceux qui sont très critiques à l'égard du Traité - et il y en a beaucoup - s'accorderont à dire, dans le cadre du présent débat sur l'avenir de l'Europe, que la meilleure manière d'aller de l'avant est d'utiliser les procédures post-Nice et de les mettre autant que possible à profit pour améliorer l'Union, rectifier les imperfections de Nice et organiser un débat approprié sur le futur de l'Union.
